I'm a huge fan of feeding your body from the molecular level--what do our cells actually need? If the building blocks to our fundamental system aren't happy, we won't be happy.
All things I look for as well as fermented, i.e. filled with good bacteria, i.e. probiotics. As much as supplements are excellent, I am not the kind of person who likes taking a million pills and powders a day, but guess what? I LOVE eating! So I strive to find the nutrients my body needs in the food I love.
Here's a smoothie I make all the time that is an easy and yummy way to feed your mitochondria! Yay! It literally takes 4 minutes to make and is great on the go.
Flax seeds 1 tbls
Raw coconut oil 1 tbls
Dark leafy greens 4 cups (or to taste)
Berries 12 oz (or to taste)
Yogurt 1 cup
A bit of honey if the berries don't cut it.
Make sure you blend the flax seeds (filled with oemga's) first. If flax seeds aren't made into a rough powder they will only act as a fiber--so not the end of the world but I love those omegas.
Next I put a chunk of raw ginger in the blender, particularly if I am looking for an immune boost. Raw ginger goes a long way so be cautious to start, you can always add more. I'm obsessed with raw ginger for taste as well as the amazing health benefits so I add a massive chunk, but I'd start out using a thumb nail sized piece.
To mix it all together I add a spoonful of raw virgin coconut oil and blend one more time before adding the rest of the ingredients: greens (a natural source of folate), berries (cancer preventative antioxidants with a low glycemic index), yogurt (probiotics and an amazing yeast infection preventer), honey and collagen.
So delicious and packed with the best goodness!
